Thank You! It's been a long 2 years and some fun times, but due to lack of viewership and lack of time on my part, Vigeos will be shutting down when hosting expires in June. No new videos will be added moving forward. I did this personally to share videos with my friends, but they all have busy lives and don't really watch YouTube anymore. I work 12 hours a day now, and with no one using Vigeos, it seems like a waste of 2 hours to add all of my watched/shared videos. All of these videos are from my subscription list, or videos friends sent to me. I've added many new subscribers, and had a good variety of content, but no one seems interested, so I'll just keep building my subscription list and save time sharing videos everyday. I hope those that did use Vigeos enjoyed it while it lasted. If anyone even sees this... Sometimes I wonder if the people coming from Google... are even real. Then again are we real? What is this reality we live in really? Anyway, it's been real. Thank you for the fun times.

The McLaren 600LT features a top mount exhaust, but it's not just for looks, or to sound good, it's quite a functional change to the design of the 570S in upgrading to the long tail. This video will focus on five main questions, clarifying the advantages of a top mount exhaust:
1. How does a top mount exhaust affect weight?
2. How does a top mount exhaust affect powertrain cooling?
3. How does a top mount exhaust affect aerodynamics?
4. Will the exhaust interfere with the rear wing’s ability to provide downforce?
5. Will your exhaust fill up with water if it sits outside in the rain?

Weight is actually a real advantage of a top mount exhaust. In the 570S, the exhaust comes out each of the sides of the V8 engine, travels back, up and over the transmission housing, and then back down, where it’s split between the two sides before exiting the rear of the vehicle. On the 600LT, this path is significantly shorter, and cuts off when the exhaust routes over the transmission, straight out the top. Not only does this reduce back pressure within the exhaust, helping the 600LT’s additional 30 horsepower over the 570S flow more freely, but in exhaust piping alone it saves 8 kg. A further 4.6 kg is saved as a result of better cooling characteristics. In total, 12.6 or about 28 pounds are saved through a revised exhaust.

How was McLaren able to pull weight and improve powertrain cooling? Well in the 570S the bumper has fans at each corner to help blow out the hot air generated by the exhaust. This hot air pools within the bumper and soaks the area in heat. The electric fans, weighing 4.6 kg, are no longer needed with the top mount exhaust, and rear of the car remains cooler.

Looking at the overall airflow path, fresh air enters the sides of the vehicle, where it then filters through an airbox, is passed through the compressor side of the turbocharger, is routed up through an air-to-water intercooler, then routed down through the intake manifold where it splits between the cylinders, eventually flowing out the exhaust through the turbine, then routed towards the back of the car where it passes through a catalytic converter before finally exiting the top mounted pipes.
