Tesla CEO Elon Musk today agreed to a $20 million fine and to step down as Tesla chairman to settle SEC secuirites fraud charges against him. Get the latest details in our LIVE COVERAGE.
Musk was charged with securities fraud for posting false tweets on August 7th saying that he had "funding secured" to take Tesla private at $420/share. As part of the settlement with the SEC, Musk will have to step down as chairman of Tesla for three years, but will be allowed to remain as CEO. Musk is still being investigated by the Justice Department for his tweets, and could face criminal charges from that investigation.
